In the bustling heart of Barcelona, a unique workplace initiative has been quietly transforming the daily routines of employees at Erika Lust Films.
Founded in 2005 by Swedish entrepreneur Erika Lust, the company is renowned for its progressive approach to adult cinema, emphasizing ethical production and diverse representation.
However, itโs not just their films that challenge norms; their workplace culture does too.
Amidst the global pandemic’s strain, Lust observed a decline in her team’s morale and productivity.
“Years of pandemic life had started to take their toll on us,” she reflected in a blog post.

“We were less focused, more agitated, and overall more anxious.”
Recognizing the detrimental effects of stress on creativity and communication, Lust sought an innovative solution.
She needed a way to re-energize her staff and boost workplace efficiency while reducing anxiety.
Inspired by an annual awareness campaign, Lust introduced a new policy at her company.
In May 2021, she implemented an unusual daily break, one that had never been considered in traditional office settings.
Unlike meditation rooms or exercise breaks, this initiative was something entirely different.
“I decided to dedicate M@sturbation Month to my team by giving them an extra 30 minutes off every day to use for their self-pleasure routine,” Lust explained.

To facilitate this, a private space dubbed the “m@sturbation station” was established within the office.
The room is equipped with a comfortable setting and a selection of sex toys for employees to use.
According to Lust, this break serves a deeper purpose beyond immediate relief.
She believes that allowing employees time for self-pleasure improves their mental well-being.
“Sexual well-being is deeply intertwined with your overall mental health and physical health and should be treated with the same respect and resources,” she said.
Employees have reportedly embraced the policy, claiming it helps with focus and workplace harmony.
One team member shared that the breaks lead to “less aggression” and “more productivity” during the workday.

Lust has noticed an increase in efficiency and engagement since the policy was put in place.
She claims that happier workers mean better output and a healthier work environment.
While some may view this initiative as controversial, Lust remains firm in her belief.
She argues that companies should rethink their approach to workplace wellness and stress reduction.
As word spread about the unconventional practice, other organizations reportedly began taking notice.
Lust noted that several businesses around the world had “followed in her footsteps.”

Despite its unconventional nature, the policy appears to be working.
Four years later, the m@sturbation break remains a permanent fixture at Erika Lust Films.
The companyโs headquarters features vulva-inspired decorations, an “erotic chapel,” and an open-minded work culture.
Lust recently gave a tour of the office, where she excitedly confirmed the continuation of the breaks.
“In case you need one, you’re always invited to do it,” she said in an interview.
Her employees now live by a reimagined proverb: “An apple a day keeps the doctor awayโฆ as an orgasm a dayโฆ”

While the policy may not appeal to everyone, Erika Lust Films maintains its usual operations.
