The global fanbase together with Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria viewers became shattered this week after actor Eric Dane revealed shocking personal news that surprised the entire Hollywood industry.
The 52-year-old actor, best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan—aka “McSteamy”—on Grey’s Anatomy, revealed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare and incurable neurodegenerative disease that leads to progressive muscle paralysis.
The medical condition commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease in America progressively reduces human function until it interferes with essential activities such as speaking and swallowing and breathing.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” Dane shared in a statement to People magazine. “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
His medical diagnosis has not led the actor to quit acting roles. The actor intends to work on shooting Euphoria season 3 despite his ALS diagnosis while continuing to portray Cal Jacobs throughout the upcoming season.
Production will start next week as indicated by insiders while Dane keeps his hopes high about bringing work into his life beyond the foreseeable future.
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set,” he added. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
The exciting development arrives shortly after Dane revealed his happy news about his family status. The seven-year-long process of divorce between Dane Cook and his wife actress Rebecca Gayheart turned into a mutual agreement for dissolution.
Gayheart initiated the divorce process back in 2018 through irreconcilable differences after spending 14 years with her husband.
Through the years the couple maintained their co-parenting relationship while they jointly spent time with their daughters Billie who is 15 and Georgia who is 13 and enjoyed vacations together.
Rebecca, 53, recently reflected on their relationship, saying,
“We are best of friends. We are really close. We are great co-parents… I think it’s important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It was a huge success. We were married for 15 years and had two beautiful kids.”
The dismissal of their divorce petition that the couple filed officially this March creates optimism among their fanbase that they have restored their relationship during this difficult period.

ALS happens to 5 out of 100,000 people worldwide but most of those affected fall between 55 to 75 years old.
