Olivia Wilde Breaks the Internet With Savage Dig at Katy Perry Space Trip

Fashion designer Olivia Wilde earned criticism by using harsh sarcasm to ridicule Katy Perry after her spaceflight with Jeff Bezos.

On Monday April 14 Jeff Bezos launched his Blue Origin space capsule which carried six important women in a mission that represented the latest female-only space flight since the 1960s.

Jeff Bezos and his fiancรฉe Lauren Sรกnchez and a propelled space crew that included Katy Perry with Gayle King and astronomers Aisha Bowe and Amanda Nguyแป…n along with film producer Kerianne Flynn to their flight mission.

The space mission lasted only 11 minutes past the Kรกrmรกn line leading up to its return to Texas desert and received tremendous media coverage as well as widespread online support.

When Perry completed her flight she immediately performed a ground kiss and raised a daisy while showing tribute to her daughter Daisy Dove Bloom.

Not everyone accepted the enthusiasm which surrounded the launch event.

Olivia Wilde, never one to shy away from pointed commentary, posted a now-viral meme on Instagram showing Perry kissing the Earth, paired with the caption:

“Getting off a commercial flight in 2025.”

The cutting remark stood out as an eight-word statement which created vast online discussion.

โ€œBillion dollars bought some good memes, I guess.โ€

Public discussions about the mission exploded when Wilde released her controversial comment which many listeners considered tasteless due to its coming at a time of economic hardship and increasing social differences.

And Wilde wasnโ€™t alone.

On the talk show Today with Jenna and Friends Olivia Munn expressed

“I know this probably isnโ€™t the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.”

She added,

“Itโ€™s so much money to go to space, and thereโ€™s a lot of people who canโ€™t even afford eggs.โ€

Model and activist Emily Ratajkowski echoed the outrage on TikTok, calling the launch โ€œbeyond parody.โ€

โ€œLook at the state of the worldโ€ฆ For what? What was the marketing there? Iโ€™m disgusted. Literally, Iโ€™m disgusted,โ€ she said.

Even comedian Amy Schumer joined in the shade parade, joking that she received a โ€œlast-secondโ€ invite and would bring a random Black Panther toy โ€” a playful jab at Perryโ€™s sentimental daisy.

The criticism directed at Blue Origin’s mission caused Blue Origin representative Lauren Sรกnchez to passionately defend the space flight.

โ€œThey love their work and they love the missionโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll show you what this is about, and itโ€™s really eye-opening,โ€ she said, emphasising the dedication of thousands of employees behind the project.

Gayle King defended the mission by explaining to the television audience,

โ€œAnybody thatโ€™s criticizing it doesnโ€™t really understand what is happening here.โ€

She highlighted the inspiration the mission provided to โ€œyoung women and girls everywhere.โ€

Many people view the space flight as a groundbreaking achievement for female astronauts yet other persons view it as an opulent but empty publicity display.

Olivia Wilde’s memorable million-dollar-worthy insult during the mission might have exceeded all other memorable things linked to the launch despite opinion differences.
