This Netflix’s Horror Series Is Leaving Viewers Scared For Their Lives

Netflix is quietly seeing one of its older shows explode again, not as a new release, but as a rediscovered horror gem.

Long dormant, this series has returned to conversation as fans share sleep-stealing reactions.

Stephen King himself recommended it, telling fans:

“If you’re one of those sickos like me, who enjoys being scared, MARIANNE (Netflix) will do the job.”

The 2019 series, directed by Samuel Bodin, follows horror writer Emma as she uncovers that the characters she writes about are also in the real world.

It stars Victoire du Bois, Lucie Boujenah, Tiphaine Daviot, and Mireille Herbstmeyer.

The show features a French supernatural horror series that debuted in September 2019.
It followed Emma, a novelist whose fictional nightmares begin invading her real life.

At launch, critics responded well. Marianne earned a 100 % rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with praise for its unsettling atmosphere and tight storytelling.

Social media posts reveal just how visceral the reaction has been.

One viewer wrote: “Just finished the first episode of #Netflix’s Marianne and I am scared for my life.”
Another added: “It’s the scariest thing I’ve ever watched in my whole f***ing life.”

The haunting visuals, the creeping dread, the blurred line between fiction and reality, all combine to make Marianne feel like a living nightmare.

Viewers report dreams turning dark, glances at shadows overstaying their welcome, and a dread that follows even after the screen goes black.

Yet, here’s the twist: Marianne never got a chance to grow.

Netflix canceled the series after its first season, with the show’s creator, Samuel Bodin, confirming there would be no second season.

Bodin later revealed that he had planned for a three-season arc, hoping to expand the lore into new settings and deeper emotional stakes.

“At the time, I really wanted to do three seasons. The story in my head takes three seasons, three acts for me. Three big chapters.”

Despite its premature end, Marianne is now being praised as one of Netflix’s most terrifying discoveries.
It’s proof that even a single season can leave a monstrous mark on viewers long after it first aired.
