Elliot Page, the celebrated star of “The Umbrella Academy” and an influential personality in the LGB TQ+ community, made a memorable presence at the 11th Annual LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles.
The event, which attracted Hollywood’s top personalities, rapidly became the talk of the town and not only because of the glitz and glamour on show.
Page, a trans visibility role model, looked handsome in a perfectly tailored double-breasted black suit and bow tie for the event. But it wasn’t only the actor’s beautiful outfit that drew eveyone’s attention; it was the company Page kept.
As the evening proceeded, photographs of Page with a special guest appeared on social media, causing much conjecture and excitement.
The visitor, Canadian comedian and “Feel Good” creator Mae Martin, complemented Page’s sophisticated outfit with a navy and black suit, opting for a timeless look that added a hint of casual elegance.
The two were bright, poised, and definitely confident as they posed for photographs. Page and Martin both shared photos from their evening on Instagram, which piqued their interest even further.
Martin quickly referred to Page as “My King” in a playful bathroom selfie of the two. Martin concluded the tweet with the hashtag #T4T, a popular hashtag among transgender individuals seeking to date other transgender individuals.
With both Page and Martin coming out in recent years (Page as a trans man in 2020 and Martin as non-binary in 2021), their posts fanned suspicion that their relationship had taken a romantic turn.
Page also uploaded his own post from the event, thanking the fashion house: “Thank you @Gucci for having me and @hooraymae at @LACMA’s Art + Film Gala.”
Martin responded in the comments with a purple heart emoji, fueling the speculations even further. While neither Page nor Martin had formally announced their relationship, they had previously been seen together.
In July 2021, Page posted a candid selfie with Martin on Instagram, captioned “Chilling with this heartthrob ๐.” The duo, who apparently met at a bar when they were 19, have been friends for approximately 15 years, but recent social media exchanges imply their friendship has grown stronger.
Elliot Page’s red carpet appearance comes nearly two years after he made global headlines for publicly coming out as transgender. In December 2020, Page posted an emotional announcement on social media, saying, “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. “To be here.”
Page’s bravery and candor inspired millions of people throughout the world, and his journey since then has been marked by considerable personal progress.
Page has been working on self-discovery since the finalization of his divorce with professional dancer Emma Portner in early 2021.
Portner had supported Page’s choice to come out, and while their romantic connection ended, the two are now on favorable terms.
In a joint statement, they stated that they had separated in the summer of 2020, before Page’s public announcement, and had mutually decided to part ways.
Now it looks that Page has started a new chapter in his life. Earlier this year, he signaled that he was ready to start dating again, even admitting in July that he had joined a dating app for the first time with the help of his “Umbrella Academy” co-star Ritu Arya.
As shown by his recent public appearances with Martin, the dating app may not have been necessary. Mae Martin, best known for their Netflix series “Feel Good”, has a profound connection with Page that extends beyond their own journeys of self-discovery.
Both are trans champions, utilizing their platforms to combat transphobia and promote more inclusivity. Martin’s work in “Feel Good” explores similar issues of identity, relationships, and self-acceptance, making the comedian a popular figure in the LGBTQ+ community.
Their friendship goes beyond mutual advocacy. The two also have matching coffee mug tattoos, which they showed off in 2021.
With their most recent public appearance, it is evident that Page and Martin’s relationship, romantic or not, is something unique. Fans of both artists are excited about the potential new romance.
Martin jokingly captioned their post, “My King @elliotpage took me out,” and the hashtag #T4T fuelled additional interest. The two’s affection was evident, as seen by their social media conversations and composed, confident manner on the red carpet.
For the time being, Page and Martin appear to be fine with letting their deeds speak louder than words. Despite not making a formal statement about their relationship, their recent trips and passionate posts suggest they are more than just friends.
Whether or not they confirm a romance, Page and Martin’s public debut at the LACMA Gala is significant not only for their admirers, but also for the larger transgender visibility movement.
As Elliot Page once said, โI love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive.โ
Whatever the future holds for Page and Martin, their friendship continues to inspire and resonate with many people around the world
