Amy Schumer, a comedy icon known for her fearless and unfiltered humor, left a lasting impression with her 2015 rom-com Trainwreck.
The film, a mix of outrageous comedy and heartfelt moments, featured WWE superstar John Cena in a role far removed from the wrestling ring.
Cena portrayed Steven, a gym-obsessed romantic interest to Schumer’s party-girl character, Amy.
Their on-screen relationship included a hilariously awkward and intimate scene that has continued to spark curiosity and laughter among fans.
Recently, Schumer revisited the iconic scene during an Australian chat show appearance. True to her style, she delivered a jaw-dropping quip when asked how she managed to keep a straight face during filming.
Her response? “Because he was actually inside me. Who am I to stop him?” The statement, laced with her signature humor, left the audience in stitches.
Co-star Bill Hader, part of the conversation, couldn’t resist joining in. He joked, “Wrestlers, they’re not faking. When they’re wrestlers, they don’t fake!” Schumer doubled down with, “It’s real,” adding another layer to the comedic moment.
But the humor didn’t stop there. Schumer described Cena’s physique with amazement, saying, “It’s a whole universe, that butt… it’s not even human. It felt like having a refrigerator on top of me.”
She continued to push boundaries, humorously expressing regret about the scene. “You know what? I didn’t get to feel his balls. It’s a major regret of mine. Major regret,” she quipped, showcasing her bold sense of humor.
For Cena, however, the experience wasn’t as lighthearted. He described filming the scene as “awkward” during a 2015 interview on Conan.
Cena explained that the production team wanted the scene to feel uncomfortable, and they achieved just that.
“Honestly, I didn’t think I’d get the part,” Cena admitted. “And I kept putting it off not telling [wife Nikki Bella] and not having the discussion of, ‘Hey, there may be some graphic scenes.’”
Cena’s delay in informing his then wife about the explicit nature of the role caused some tension. Speaking to Fox News, he said, “Nicole had every right to be mad because I didn’t tell her from the beginning.”
The tension wasn’t limited to his personal life. Cena also opened up about his nerves on set, admitting, “It was nerve-racking. I never thought I would get the part in the first place. Then I got the part and was thinking I have to be naked.”
His nearly nude appearance, protected by only a towel, added another layer of vulnerability to the scene.
Despite the discomfort, Cena credited Schumer and the cast for embracing the comedic approach and making the process enjoyable.
As the scene gained attention, Schumer continued to reflect on the humor and absurdity of the moment.
She jokingly claimed, “I just did what I usually do when I have s3x—just lay there,” further leaning into her comedic persona.
The newsworthy twist came with Schumer’s surprising revelation about the filming process. While her jokes initially led many to believe she was serious, it became clear that her comments were all in good fun.
The playful banter between Schumer and Cena during interviews has kept this moment alive, showcasing their comedic chemistry.
Their ability to blend humor with vulnerability has made the scene an unforgettable highlight in modern rom-com history.
In Trainwreck, the combination of Schumer’s unapologetic humor and Cena’s surprising comedic chops delivered a moment that still resonates.
This behind-the-scenes insight reminds fans why this film remains a standout in both stars’ careers.
