Robin Ince, a close friend and support act for Gervais, recently shared his experiences. On “The Starting Line” podcast, he shared his thoughts on how Gervais’s backstage behavior affected him.
“I look back now, and I think it is bullying, really it is,” Ince said. He revealed that, following two weeks on tour, his body started to exhibit signs of strain.
“After two weeks, I came out in red lumps that my doctor said were a stress rash,” Ince revealed. “I think my hair is coming out in clumps.”
Despite the allegations, the duo maintained their friendship over the years. In 2022, Ince took a stand against Gervais, expressing his disapproval of the jokes aimed at the transgender community in the Netflix special “SuperNature”.
This blog post signified an important turning point in their relationship. Ince criticized the harmful effects of Gervais’s comedy on vulnerable communities.
“It is easy to forget the collateral damage of jokes,” Ince wrote. “Anti-trans punchlines seem to have become highly profitable.”
Ince emphasized that this type of humor overlooks the effects on individuals who are already marginalized. “I think Ricky believes it is just him being a ‘naughty boy.’”

More alarming information has now surfaced. A video from 2016 features Ince recounting strange and embarrassing tasks he claims were imposed on him by Gervais.
The 26-minute video, “Living with Ricky Gervais 2”, showcases footage of these events. One incident featured Gervais pressuring Ince to remove his clothing down to his underwear on a beach.
Gervais is accused of stacking rocks and sand over Ince. The incident left Ince battered and bruised.
Ince recounted the experience of feeling compelled to consume a croissant soaked in coffee. Even though it was known that Ince had lactose intolerance, Gervais allegedly found humor in his unease.
“My body was spasming out,” Ince recalled in the video. Ince characterized the experience as “hellish and torturous,” offering a shocking reflection on the suffering.
“When he is bored, he is either angry or wants to be entertained,” Ince said. “And his entertainment is to make his closest friends have a life that is hellish and torturous.”
