Born from a brief relationship between Spice Girls star Mel B and Hollywood legend Eddie Murphy, their child has grown up away from the chaos of fame, despite having two globally recognized parents.
While Murphy has made generations laugh with his blockbuster films like Coming to America and Daddy Day Care, Mel B became a pop culture icon as part of the world famous girl group that ruled the 90s.
Their connection in 2006 led to the birth of Angel Iris Murphy Brown in 2007. Raised largely by Mel B, Angel has appeared in social media posts through the years but remained largely private.
Earlier this year, Mel B marked Angel’s 18th birthday with an emotional Instagram tribute.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY ANGEL !!! I cannot believe you’re 18”, she wrote. “You are so special and so bright and so talented!! I couldn’t be prouder of watching you grow and become the person you are but you’ll forever be my babyyyy” followed by “love you always” and a series of heart emojis.
Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy, now a father of ten, has been equally supportive of his children. His eldest son, Eric, 35, recently married Jasmin Lawrence, daughter of actor Martin Lawrence, strengthening ties between two entertainment powerhouses.
Fans recently noticed a quiet change in Angel’s online profile. It wasn’t an announcement or a headline grabbing reveal, but something far more personal.
On Instagram, Angel updated his pronouns to “he” and “him”, signaling a heartfelt step forward in his identity.
According to a source quoted by Mail Online, “It’s a decision Angel made and Mel has been understanding, likewise Eddie. There was no big event to mark it. Angel just wanted it to be known what pronouns are now suitable.”
The support from both parents has been clear, offering reassurance and love as Angel embraces this new chapter.
Angel’s decision follows a growing number of young people in the public eye who are courageously stepping into their truth. Recently, Robert De Niro’s daughter Airyn came out as transgender, telling Them magazine that it “felt right.”
In response, De Niro shared a powerful message of support, saying “I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I don’t know what the big deal is. I love all my children.”
