“I had my whole adult life here,” she revealed in an interview with “Marie Claire.” “But even before [the pandemic], it was changing. The vibe was different.”

Longoria explained how the COVID-19 pandemic served as a turning point for her. She cited issues like homelessness and high taxation in California as factors that brought significant societal challenges into sharper focus.

However, the actress clarified her remarks were not meant to criticize the state she had called home for decades. “Not that I want to s**t on California,” she added, “it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”

Mental health also played a significant role in Longoria’s reflections. Ana Navarro, her friend and political commentator, described her decision as a way to “shut off the noise,” something Longoria wholeheartedly agreed with.

“Being away from the constant 24-hour news cycle puts you in a bit of a bubble, for sure,” she admitted. She shared how stepping away allowed her to recalibrate and focus on her personal and professional life.

Reports had linked her decision to relocate with Donald Trump’s controversial reelection, sparking widespread speculation. However, Longoria swiftly addressed these claims during a podcast appearance on “The View: Behind the Table.”

“Would you please let them know that I didn’t move out of the United States because of Trump?” she asked Navarro. She criticized sensational headlines for distorting her reasons, calling the coverage divisive and misleading.

Still, Longoria expressed her concerns about the country’s direction under Trump’s leadership. “If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” she stated, acknowledging the unease many Americans might feel.

Longoria’s relocation also reflects her family’s evolving needs and lifestyle. Alongside her husband, José Bastón, and their six-year-old son Santiago, she now splits her time between Spain and Mexico.

She admitted that the move is a privilege many Americans cannot afford. “I get to escape and go somewhere,” she said. “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country.”

The decision aligns with Longoria’s professional commitments, as she has spent much of the past three years working in Europe. Her projects include hosting CNN’s “Searching for Mexico” and “Searching for Spain,” which explore the rich cultural history of these regions.

Longoria’s reflections highlight her shifting perspective on what defines home and personal fulfillment. As she transitions to this new chapter, her focus appears to be on embracing quieter, more fulfilling opportunities abroad.

Breaking away from speculation, Longoria recently shared the underlying reason behind her move.
