Hurricane Milton caused havoc across Florida, providing a dramatic background for many who sought refuge at Walt Disney World.
The hurricane made landfall on October 9, slamming the Sunshine State with such force that it produced shockwaves across the region.
Milton was first categorized as a Category 3 hurricane with peak winds of 180 mph before being downgraded to a Category 1 when it passed.
Despite Disney’s decision to close its parks and resorts, people stayed on-site and captured the storm’s fury through their windows.
One viral TikTok video showed the park being pounded by severe rains and gusts, with palm trees swinging dangerously from the storm’s fury.
A guest at the Art of Animation resort reported, “Hurricane Milton is here at Walt Disney World! We’re staying safe in our room, and we hope everyone else in Florida is too!”
They offered gratitude to the cast members who worked valiantly throughout the storm. The National Weather Service estimated that Milton generated at least 27 tornadoes, causing major damage and many fatalities, notably in St. Lucie County.
Sheriff Keith Pearson stated, โWe are not going to get into how many, but I can tell you itโs more than one person who has lost their life.โ
The hurricane knocked out electricity to nearly three million homes and companies, with Disney’s financial losses expected to range between $150 million and $200 million this quarter as a result of park closures and interruptions.
Despite the severe destruction, some guests noted that Disney had taken precautions. Staff at the hotels supplied assistance, including lunch boxes and entertainment for youngsters, forming a temporary hurricane squad to alleviate families’ anxieties.
However, questions about the decision to stay open throughout the storm spurred an online debate, with conflicting opinions from the public.
As the hurricane passed, reports of devastation surfaced, including the roof of the Tampa Field stadium being ripped off.
Despite the dangers, individuals who withstood the storm demonstrated remarkable fortitude.
As the day rose and the depth of Hurricane Milton’s devastation became clear, many were relieved to see that viral sensation “Lieutenant Dan” had survived the storm, despite refusing to leave his boat.
With Disney’s parks shuttered and the storm’s aftermath still developing, the perseverance and bravery of both tourists and employees will be remembered as a significant part of the Hurricane Milton story.
As the entire amount of the devastation is examined, the world waits to see what effect the storm will have on the beloved resort.
