At just 27, Reyes had built a name for herself, becoming a beacon of entrepreneurial spirit and authenticity.
Hailing from Tampico in northeastern Tamaulipas, Mexico, Denisse’s journey to prominence began in 2022.
Embracing the role of a “neni”—a colloquial term in Mexico for women who sell products online—she leveraged platforms like Instagram and TikTok to promote her growing business.
Her genuine approach and relatable content quickly garnered her a dedicated following.
As her online presence flourished, Denisse took a bold step by establishing her own store.
This venture not only solidified her status as a successful entrepreneur but also served as an inspiration to many young women aspiring to break into the digital marketplace.
Beyond her business acumen, Denisse was known for her vibrant personality.
Her sister, Massiel Reyes, fondly reminisced, “You were a woman who always did what she wanted and went 1000% in her life, too free, spontaneous, extroverted, that was you.”
This zest for life was evident in her content, where she often shared moments of joy, challenges, and personal growth.
However, behind the curated posts and smiling photos, Denisse faced personal challenges.
As a single mother, she was devoted to her eight-year-old son, striving to provide him with the best opportunities while balancing the demands of her online persona and business.
In late January 2025, Denisse decided to undergo a cosmetic procedure—liposuction—at the San Pablo Medical Clinic in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.
She shared updates with her followers, mentioning that she was in the recovery phase post-surgery.
According to reports, she was administered an intravenous medication by her surgeon, Dr. Orlando Gamboa.
Her uncle, Ammao Rodríguez, later recounted, “She starts to feel sick and goes into cardiac arrest, and at that moment they take her out of the room where she was in the clinic.”
A friend who accompanied Denisse to the procedure was reportedly told by medical staff to wait outside the recovery room.
They quickly let the friend know that her condition was delicate, but they didn’t provide any other details at the time.
Due to the clinic’s lack of an intensive care unit, Denisse was transferred to Manzur Hospital.
Despite medical efforts, her condition deteriorated, and she passed away on January 29, 2025, three days after undergoing the procedure.
Her family emphasized that she had been in good health prior to the surgery, with no known pre-existing conditions.
Denisse’s tragic passing has sparked grief and outrage, leading her family to seek justice.
Her uncle, Rodríguez, has been in contact with Chiapas health authorities, expressing the family’s intent to file a lawsuit against Dr. Gamboa.
He stated, “May the authorities do justice to Denisse and may the doctor pay in some way for what he did.”
This incident has also cast a spotlight on the growing concerns around unregulated cosmetic procedures in Mexico.
Dr. Gamboa had previously faced accusations in December 2024 related to another patient’s death following a liposuction procedure.
At that time, he denied involvement, asserting that the medical team responsible was not affiliated with his clinic.
Denisse’s passing has led to an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow influencers.
One follower expressed, “This is heartbreaking, she was so beautiful.”
Another added, “May God comfort her family, how sad she was young and very pretty.”
As the digital community mourns the loss of a vibrant soul, Denisse Reyes’s story serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with cosmetic procedures.
