Bryce Dallas Howard has revealed a significant salary difference between her and her “Jurassic World” co-star Chris Pratt. The trilogy, building on the legendary “Jurassic Park” series, achieved remarkable financial success, with the first film earning an impressive $1.6 billion worldwide.
In a surprising revelation, Howard shared that her earnings were significantly lower than Pratt’s, despite the film’s tremendous success. Howard and Pratt took on leading roles in the “Jurassic World” series, including “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “Jurassic World Dominion”. According to reports in 2018, Howard earned $8 million for the second film, while Pratt earned $10 million.
However, Howard recently revealed that the discrepancy significantly exceeded the initial estimates. “The reports were so interesting because I was paid so much less than the reports even said, so much less,” she told “”Insider””.
Howard revealed that her first discussions regarding the trilogy began back in 2014. “It was a different world, and I was at a great disadvantage,” she said. At that moment, we established agreements for the trio of films, leaving minimal room for later adjustments.
Despite the reported figures showing a $2 million difference, Howard proposed that the gap was actually larger. She kept her actual earnings for the films confidential. This revelation underscores the persistent challenge of pay disparities based on gender within the entertainment industry.
But Chris Pratt has tried to address this disparity in various fields. Howard reported that Pratt pushed for fair compensation on initiatives that fell outside their initial agreements. This included video games, merchandise agreements, and theme park experiences linked to the “Jurassic World” franchise.
“What I will say is that Chris and I have discussed it,” Howard said. “He literally told me, ‘I’m gonna do all the negotiating. We’re going to be paid the same, and you donโt have to think about this, Bryce.'”
Howard conveyed her heartfelt gratitude for Pratt’s contributions. “I love him for doing that. Iโve been paid more for those kinds of things than I ever was for the movie,” she shared. Pratt’s efforts guaranteed fair pay for additional projects such as “Jurassic World Evolution” and “Jurassic World: The Ride”.
This scenario is not exclusive to Howard, as numerous actresses have encountered comparable pay gaps in the industry. Jessica Chastain has disclosed that her earnings for “The Martian” were significantly lower than those of Matt Damon. Damon’s earnings ranged from $15 million to $25 million, whereas Chastain’s reported compensation was just $1.75 million.
Michelle Williams encountered a notable disparity in compensation during the reshoots for “All the Money in the World”. Michelle Williams received a mere $1,000, while her co-star Mark Wahlberg received a compensation of $1.5 million. These narratives, including Howard’s, underscore the pervasive challenge of compensation disparity within the sector.
As the “Jurassic World” trilogy wraps up with “Jurassic World Dominion”, Howard shared her thoughts on her journey with the franchise. She conveyed her appreciation for the connections she formed, referring to the cast and crew as “family for life.” Although the films have concluded, Howard’s disclosures regarding pay inequality will persist in echoing.
Chris Pratt has shown unwavering support for Howard during their time working together. During a conversation with “”Entertainment Tonight””, he commended her impact on the films. “If you’re making a movie and you have the opportunity to have her involved in any way, you absolutely do it,” he said
As conversations about compensation disparities in the entertainment industry intensify, Howardโs narrative contributes an important perspective. Their candidness, along with Prattโs support, highlights the critical need for advancing pay equity within the entertainment sector
