The US Open has been full of drama both on and off the court, but one shocking moment has left fans more outraged than any result in the tournament so far.

Polish star Kamil Majchrzak produced one of the biggest upsets of the competition when he defeated ninth seed Karen Khachanov in a five-set thriller.

The 29-year-old clawed his way back from two sets down, winning 2-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(5), in what many called the performance of his career.

After the incredible win, Majchrzak walked to the stands of Court 11 to meet his fans. As he signed tennis balls and photos, cameras caught him removing his Asics cap and handing it to a young boy in the front row.

The footage quickly spread online, with one fan calling the act “disgusting.” Another simply wrote, “Shame on this guy.” Social media users branded the man a “bully” and questioned how anyone could take a gift intended for a child.

This adult steals cap from the child.

When the boy reached out with excitement, an older spectator leaned in and snatched the cap away. The shocking moment unfolded on live TV as the child protested but was left empty-handed.

At first, Majchrzak was unaware of what had happened. Later, he took to Instagram to address the situation and reassure fans.

The boy is clearly seen crying and left emptyhanded.

“After the match I didn’t get to record that my cap didn’t get to the boy,” he explained. “Thanks to @asicstennis I’ve got enough caps so I’m prepared for that. Hey guys, could you help me find the kid from my match. If it’s you (or your parents see this), please send me a DM.”

The story took a positive turn just hours later when Majchrzak updated his followers again. “I am impressed by the power of the Internet,” he wrote. “We got it! All good now.”

Fans praised his response, with one saying, “Kamil Majchrzak won the hearts of fans around the world when he asked on Instagram for contact with the robbed boy to compensate him for his loss.” Another hailed him as a “class act” and a “legend” for how he handled the ordeal.

With the controversy finally resolved, Majchrzak now shifts his focus back to tennis. His third-round clash with qualifier Leandro Riedi will decide whether he advances to the Round of 16, which would mark his best-ever result at the Grand Slam.
