Lily Allen, a singer recognized for her openness, revisits childhood experiences on her podcast, “Miss Me?”.
Hosting alongside Miquita Oliver, her candor exposed disturbing information of a troubling event from her upbringing.
In a startling podcast session, Allen discussed a previous relationship with a well-known TV personality, although she kept his identity hidden.
She described an unsettling occurrence related to a Moby album that now brings back terrible recollections, emphasizing the sensitivity of the encounter.
The “Miss Me?” podcast has become an opportunity for Allen and Oliver to address a wide range of themes, including many that are extremely personal.
Allen’s stories stretch from lighthearted tales to profound reflections on her rich history, all presented with her typical honesty.
During one of the shows, Allen discussed a traumatic experience from her teenage years, possibly for the first time, with her audience.
The encounter involves a TV celebrity who played music by Moby, which she now associates with that difficult time.
Allen had previously mentioned this encounter in her 2018 novel “My Thoughts Exactly,” when she reported attending a charity football tournament.
Following the match, she was tasked with bringing the TV star’s misplaced football kit to his hotel, which resulted in the disturbing meeting.
She described how the star, who was five years her senior, bought her drinks before taking her to his room.
“I was 14. He was 19, but to me, he seemed like someone from a different generation. Afterwards, I felt funny about it. I knew what had happened wasn’t right,” Allen admits in her book, reflecting on the age gap and her unease.
Allen revealed how her father responded when he found out about the incident, which added to her misery.
Rather than providing support, he and his buddies dismissed the situation as a joke, intending to blackmail the TV celebrity, leaving Allen feeling invalidated and trivialized.
Allen’s discoveries go beyond this particular instance, describing another stunning encounter from a family vacation in Brazil.
There, she met an older man named Fernando, which resulted in a major misunderstanding about her safety, which had a negative impact on her family.
Her detailed account of waking up in Fernando’s room to discover a police search for her offers a vivid picture of the chaos and anxiety that followed.
“It was literally like an episode of the Brazilian “The Bill”, there were police everywhere,” she said, describing her father’s dramatic reaction when he feared she had drowned.
Allen’s frank sharing of these memories provides an insight into the intricacies of her history, which include times of vulnerability and misunderstanding.
Today, she is married to “Stranger Things” star David Harbour, and they manage life with a mix of support and love, a far cry from Allen’s early experiences with celebrity and adversity.
