Following extensive investigative efforts conducted in the Dominican Republic the family of Sudiksha Konanki accepts that their American student has met her demise.
University of Pittsburgh student Konanki disappeared in Punta Cana on March 6 at the beginning of the day during her Spring Break. Five friends accompanied Sudiksha Konanki at the RIU República Hotel which accepts only adults.
Everyone in the group participated in the exciting Caribbean vacation scene during their trip. They decided to spend the rest of the night with the two male acquaintances they had met on their vacation as they walked along the beach.

Joshua Riibe served as one of the two men who accompanied the group that night and he turned out to be 22 years old with a history of lifeguarding in Iowa. The group entered the ocean for swimming at 4:15 a.m. despite the strong tides in the area being unknown to them.
The waters revealed their dangerous nature because of their unstable tides. The powerful wave rose and carried Sudiksha and Joshua out of their group toward the ocean during their shoreline adventure.
Joshua documented that he tried to retrace Sudiksha back to safety but losses a grip due to exhaustion. Swallowing seawater resulted in vomiting before he lost consciousness while sitting on the beach.

When Sudiksha disappeared he recovered consciousness but she had already vanished. He sent an urgent message to their companions who started a desperate investigation across the beach area.
As dawn broke, concerns escalated. The beach chair where Sudiksha’s belongings including her clothes were placed revealed the absence of the young woman herself.
The authorities activated their search operation with drones along with K-9 detection units and divers who searched throughout the neighboring waters. After extending all possible efforts investigators managed to get no results fast.

Her parents Subbarayudu and Sreedevi Konanki rushed to the Dominican Republic to find out what had happened to their daughter. They made the first request to all authorities to look into all potential explanations from criminal activity.
The authorities questioned Joshua while they confiscated his passport. Though he was never charged with a crime, authorities labeled him a ‘person of interest’ in the case.
Sreedevi expressed her gratitude to Joshua through an in-court encounter after he had attempted to save her daughter. The brief reunion at the time of grief exposed the intense suffering the family members were going through.

The hope to find Sudiksha alive started disappearing with the progression of time. During March 18 her grieving parents delivered an immensely painful declaration to the public.
We receive the news with profound grief and a weighty desperation because we understand our daughter has met her end through drowning. We are finding it next to impossible to accept this reality according to Subbarayudu Konanki.
Dominican authorities must issue formal documents which confirm the death of Sudiksha Konanki. Her family filed this request. “Initiating this process will allow our family to begin the grieving process and address matters related to her absence,” they wrote.

Testing revealed no criminal activities occurred during the investigation. The evidence team proved that Sudiksha’s clothing washed up on the beach surrounding her last location which indicated suicide as the probable cause of death.
The Konanki family wishes to keep themselves private while grieving for their deceased elder daughter and caring for their living children. The police surveillance on Joshua Riibe has ended therefore he can now depart from the nation without restrictions.
“I’ve done what I can, but at this time there’s not much now that I can do,” Riibe stated. “I’m just waiting to go home and go back to my life.”
The ocean became a source of tragic dangers through Sudiksha Konanki’s loss. The local community along with her family members and friends still mourn her passing as they cherish her memory along with the bright prospects whose future ended prematurely.
