She eventually quit modeling to be an actress in Los Angeles, landing small guest roles in McMillan & Wife and Charlies Angels. Basinger co-starred in a miniseries with film legend Natalie Wood in From Here to Eternity in 1979 and its spinoff a year later. In 1983, she went to work in Never Say Never Again as a Bond girl.
