Tammy Slaton, best known for her role on TLC’s “1000-lb Sisters,” has captivated fans worldwide with her life-changing weight loss journey, showcasing a remarkable transformation that’s both inspiring and groundbreaking.
Since the show’s debut in 2020, Tammy has openly shared her struggles, allowing audiences an intimate look at her challenges and victories in battling extreme obesity.
Initially, Tammy faced severe health complications, tipping the scales at 725 pounds and relying on a wheelchair and an oxygen tube.

At her lowest, Tammy’s health declined drastically, leading her to undergo bariatric surgery in July 2022 after a near-death experience that placed her in a medically induced coma.
Reflecting on her decision to get surgery, Tammy shared with “people,” “I wised up and got my surgery.
I was able to make my lungs strong enough to get my trach out, and then recently the doctor cleared me to be off my oxygen machine during the daytime.”
She expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m feeling great! I’m thankful to be alive, and it’s fun to be progressing as much as I am.”
Tammy’s doctor, Dr. Eric Smith, medical director at the Kentucky Bariatric Institute, has supported her since the beginning.
He frequently applauds her dedication, encouraging her to prioritize non-scale victories, such as improved mobility and newfound independence.

“For Tammy, I told her don’t get so caught up in a number. Enjoy the ride getting there,” he remarked, recalling a significant moment when Tammy sent him a photo of herself sitting comfortably in a car seat with her seatbelt buckled.
For someone who previously required transportation in the back of a van with seats removed, it was a breakthrough that symbolized her growing autonomy.
“You have always had an impact on those who have enjoyed following your journey,” Dr. Smith commented on Tammy’s social media, adding, “Watching you now take this step to help others change their life and their health like you did is inspiring.”
Tammy herself has acknowledged how the journey has transformed her mindset, opening up to fans on TikTok about the emotional toll her weight once had on her.

“I was bitter, unhappy, very super s**cidal, depressed, and just mean,” she confessed.
Now, she’s seen immense growth in her relationships and approach to life, sharing, “I smile a lot more.”
Tammy’s current sense of fulfillment and positive outlook is evident as she continues inspiring others on social media, recently posting, “My journey isn’t everyone’s journey, but I know many of you have been inspired by the growth you’ve seen in me over the years.”
The reality star’s transformation has struck a chord with audiences, many of whom have followed her from the beginning and voiced their pride in her progress.
In recent social media posts, she’s received comments like “Such determination!” and “So proud of her. She has done a phenomenal job,” praising her resilience and commitment.

Yet, there was one milestone Tammy had been quietly working toward, one that would mark her most significant achievement to date.
During a recent check-up with Dr. Smith, Tammy nervously stepped onto the scales.
In a moving episode, she learned she had reached an incredible weight of 303.8 pounds, far surpassing the target set by her doctor.
Overwhelmed, she exclaimed, “I surpassed Dr. Smith’s goal, my goal, all the goals!”
Dr. Smith himself was delighted, praising her “unbelievable” transformation and noting her commitment to making sustainable lifestyle changes.
Looking ahead, Dr. Smith has proposed skin removal surgery as the next step, ideally after Tammy maintains a stable weight for three to six months.

However, should excess skin impact her mobility, the procedure may be scheduled sooner.
Through her remarkable transformation, Tammy Slaton has become more than just a reality star—she’s a beacon of hope for anyone striving to reclaim their health.
