Some love stories take twists and turns that seem straight out of a movie.
For Jenna and Mitchell Brotherson, fate had an unexpected plan in store that transformed a split into a lifelong commitment.
The Utah couple first crossed paths in 2019 when Mitchell was actually on a date with someone else.
As Jenna and Mitchellโs friendship deepened, they found a natural connection that soon evolved into a romantic relationship.
However, by early 2020, life pressures began to weigh on Jenna, leading her to end things.
In February of that year, Jenna, feeling overwhelmed, decided to break up with Mitchell.
The next day, a skiing accident at Utahโs Beaver Mountain would change everything.
Mitchell, then 22, attempted a jump on an icy slope but lost control, landing on his head.
โHe was going off a jump and it was super icy,โ Jenna told PEOPLE.
The accident left Mitchell with a severe concussion, and he blacked out, only regaining consciousness as paramedics transported him down the mountain.
The injury was serious enough that it led to significant memory loss, affecting his day-to-day abilities.
In fact, Mitchell even had to take a leave from school to let his brain recover, as he failed most of his courses that semester.
What Jenna didnโt realize was that Mitchellโs memory loss included one critical detail: their breakup.
Unaware of their separation, Mitchell called Jenna from the hospital, asking for a ride home.
โIโm like, โWhy is he messaging me? I just broke up with him,โโ Jenna shared in a TikTok video.
Initially, she thought he was taking her โletโs stay friendsโ statement seriously when he continued reaching out to her.
โMitch kept messaging me and trying to hang out after his concussion, and I was confused,โ Jenna said.
At one point, Mitchell even brought ice cream to Jenna and her roommates after a tough day, a gesture that touched her.
Reflecting on his kindness and thoughtfulness, Jenna began to regret her decision to end the relationship.
In March 2020, while on a spring break vacation, Jenna reconsidered and worked up the courage to ask Mitchell to start dating again.
When she finally opened up, she discovered something surprising about his reaction.
Mitchell had no idea theyโd ever broken up.
He remembered talking with her in the car that day but had no memory of what was said.
To him, theyโd never been apart.
โIt made it easy to get back together because to him, we never werenโt together!โ Jenna recalled.
Five months later, Mitchell proposed to Jenna at Big Cottonwood Canyon, where heโd first told her he loved her.
The couple married in Draper, Utah, in September 2020, sealing a union brought back to life by a twist of fate.
In his wedding speech, Mitchell laughed about not recalling the breakup but expressed gratitude for how everything turned out.
Now both 27, the Brothersons look back on their unique love story with a smile, feeling that โinvisible stringsโ had always been pulling them together.
